The client and the challenge
Hyde Road Wheels and Tyres is a family-run tyre shop and car repair garage on Hyde Road in Gorton. It fits and repairs tyres, offers mobile tyre fitting, MOT, servicing, brakes and batteries, and serves Gorton and neighbouring areas including Ardwick, Burnage, Levenshulme, Longsight, Didsbury and Stockport.
The site had been compromised and filled with hidden casino links. Search traffic was steady at around 300 clicks a month, but service pages ranked poorly for the terms that bring customers in, and the main call to action did not work.
- Remove the spam and secure the site.
- Fix the booking path.
- Build proper pages for tyres, MOT and repairs.
What the audit found
We combined Search Console, Analytics and a full crawl, from August 2026.
- Hacked casino links
- 34 spam URLs had been indexed by Google, and the front page still carried 47 hidden casino links when we rechecked in September. The spam URLs had not earned clicks, but they put the brand at risk.
- A Book Now button leading to a 404
- Six service pages sent the primary call to action to a page that did not exist. That path had around 414 views over 12 months and was the fourth most-viewed URL.
- Brand-name cannibalisation
- About ten pages ranked for “hyde road tyres”, so none of them could lead. Service pages sat at very low click-through rates and positions between 22 and 84.
- Missing titles, headings and descriptions
- Seven pages had no meta description and six service pages had no H1. Seven titles were too long, and the About page was set to noindex.
- Page and image issues
- Thirteen images lacked alt text, several were heavy, and the older service pages were thin. There was no footer across the site.
- Bot traffic distorting reports
- About 39% of Analytics sessions came from bots, so reporting needed filtering before it could be trusted.
What we did
Security first, then structure, then content.
Clean and secure
Removed the injected links, returned the spam URLs as gone, deactivated a risky file-manager plugin and removed an unneeded admin account.
Repair the booking path
Redirected the broken contacts URL to the real contact page, so every Book Now button works, and redirected the legacy domain.
Fix the basics
Added a sitewide footer, an H1 on every service page, a single redirect from www, and AutoRepair, TireShop and Service structured data.
Rebuild the service pages
Redesigned seven pages and added a dedicated tyres page for Manchester, so one page owns each core service rather than ten competing for the brand.
Publish a tyre advice hub
Launched a tyre advice section with 30 answer-led articles that link back to the service pages, and updated the Google Business Profile with services, a description and review replies.
Results so far
Results are being tracked; we will publish verified numbers here. What is confirmed is the clean-up itself: the casino links are gone, the Book Now path works and the site has a proper structure. Ranking and enquiry changes are not measured yet.
