A website built to rank, not just to look good

A good-looking website that nobody finds is a waste of money. We’ve heard the version of this story more than once: a business pays a few grand for a smart redesign, the site looks great, and the phone still doesn’t ring, because the site and the search work were never connected. We build the two together, or we’ll tell you honestly that your existing site isn’t the problem.

Might we tell you not to rebuild at all?

Before we design anything, we look at whether your current site is actually holding you back, or whether the real problem is your Google Business Profile, your reviews, or your visibility in search. If a new website won’t move the number that matters — calls and enquiries — we’ll say so, even though that means less work for us. That’s a genuinely unusual thing for a web design agency to offer, and we think it should be normal.

What’s actually included when you do need a new site?

We build on WordPress with Kadence, which keeps the site editable by you afterwards rather than locking your content inside a system only we can touch. Every build is planned around the pages that actually convert: clear service pages, a working contact route, fast load times, and structured data that helps both Google and AI tools understand what you do and where.

Three tiers cover most businesses. Launch is a focused site for a business that needs a clean, fast, professional presence built around a handful of core pages. Growth adds a fuller page structure — more services, more locations, more content — built for a business actively growing its search visibility. Ecommerce adds a working online shop, product pages built to rank, and the checkout and payment setup underneath it.

  • Built on WordPress with Kadence — you can edit it yourself afterwards
  • Structured data and technical SEO built in from the first page, not bolted on later
  • Fast, mobile-first, accessible pages
  • A care plan to keep it updated, backed up and secure after launch

What does a build actually cost?

Launch starts from £1,800. Growth starts from £3,500 for a business that needs a larger page structure to support serious SEO growth — more service and location pages, more content, built to scale rather than to sit still. Ecommerce starts from £6,500. Every build gets a fixed quote before we start, not an open-ended estimate.

Website vs a Google Business Profile fix — which comes first?

For most local businesses, fixing the Google Business Profile is faster and cheaper than a rebuild, and it’s often where the bigger gap actually is. One practitioner voice in our research put it well: the website complements the profile, not the other way round — get the profile right first, then make the website mirror it. If your profile is a mess and your site is merely dated rather than broken, we’ll usually recommend the profile work first and hold off on a rebuild until it’s clearly needed.

What actually happens, month by month, on a build?

Week one is discovery: the pages you need, your existing content and branding, and what’s working or not on your current site if you have one. We turn that into a fixed quote and a page-by-page plan before any design work starts.

The build itself typically runs two to six weeks depending on the tier — Launch is the fastest, Ecommerce takes longest because of the product catalogue and payment setup. You’ll see drafts of key pages as they’re built, not just a single reveal at the end, so there’s room to redirect early rather than after everything’s finished.

Before launch we test load speed on a real phone, check every page works with JavaScript switched off, and run through the structured data and technical SEO checklist that the SEO retainer would otherwise start from scratch. Launch day itself is planned to avoid downtime — DNS and hosting changes are scheduled and communicated in advance.

After launch, the optional care plan picks up: updates, backups, and small content changes, so the site doesn’t quietly go stale the way an unmaintained WordPress site often does within a year or two.

What do we deliberately not do on a build?

We don’t hand you an open-ended estimate that grows once work starts — every build gets a fixed quote first. We don’t lock your content inside a proprietary page builder that only we can edit; Kadence keeps it in your hands. We don’t skip the technical SEO foundation to hit a deadline, because a fast-looking site that Google can’t crawl properly isn’t actually finished. And we won’t recommend a full rebuild when the real problem is somewhere else, even though that costs us the sale.

How does a build differ for a trade versus a clinic?

A builder or trade site usually needs a small number of clear, specific service pages — the jobs you actually do — with an obvious way to call or request a quote from any page, because speed to contact matters more than depth of content. A clinic site typically needs more explanatory content per service, because the buying decision is slower and more research-driven, plus stronger structured data around treatments and practitioners. Both need the same technical foundation underneath; what changes is how much content sits on top of it and how fast the layout gets someone to the phone number.

Why do we build on Kadence, specifically?

There’s a real gap between web design shops that build attractive sites and agencies that understand search, and it catches people out — a business can pay a few grand for a smart-looking redesign and still get almost no calls from it, because the site was never built with search or AI visibility in mind. Kadence lets us build a fast, clean, editable site without needing a page-builder plugin that quietly slows everything down, and it plays well with the structured data and technical SEO work that has to sit underneath the design.

Does the design actually get in the way?

We’re not chasing an award for the design itself. The site needs to load fast, work properly on the phone most of your customers will be using, and make it obvious how to call or message you within a second or two of landing on a page. Anything that slows that down — heavy animation, unnecessary plugins, a design that photographs well but loads slowly — gets cut, however good it looks in a mock-up.

What’s the difference between the three tiers, in practice?

Launch suits a business that needs a small number of genuinely good pages — home, a handful of services, contact — and doesn’t yet need the scale a growth campaign requires. Growth is built for a business already committed to expanding its search visibility: more service pages, more location coverage, more content infrastructure, because narrow sites run out of room to rank for the range of searches a growing business needs. Ecommerce adds the product catalogue, checkout and payment layer on top of everything Growth includes, built so product pages are structured to rank rather than just to display.

Most businesses starting out choose Launch and move to Growth later once the SEO work identifies where the gaps are — there’s no penalty for starting smaller and expanding the site as the retainer’s content work needs somewhere to live.

What do we need from you to start?

A rough idea of the pages you need, any existing branding or content you already have, and honest answers about what’s working and what isn’t on your current site if you have one. We’ll turn that into a fixed quote and a realistic build timeline before any work starts, so there are no surprises partway through.

What’s on every build

  • Clear service pages built around what customers actually search for
  • A working, obvious contact route on every page
  • Fast load times, checked on real mobile devices before launch
  • Structured data: Organization, LocalBusiness, Service and FAQ markup as relevant
  • Accessible, keyboard-operable navigation and readable contrast
  • A site that works with JavaScript switched off

What happens after launch?

A website isn’t finished on the day it goes live — plugins need updating, backups need checking, and small requests come up. The care plan is £95 a month and covers exactly that, so the site doesn’t quietly go stale.

What does a stale, unmaintained WordPress site actually risk?

Unpatched plugins and an outdated WordPress core are a genuine security risk, not a theoretical one — it’s one of the most common ways small business sites get compromised. Beyond security, a site nobody’s touched in a year or two tends to have broken forms nobody noticed, dead links accumulating, and content that’s quietly gone out of date, all of which chip away at the trust signals both Google and AI tools use to judge a page. The care plan exists to catch that early rather than let it become an emergency rebuild later.

Do I need a new website, or is my search visibility the real problem?

Often it’s the search visibility, not the website. We check both before recommending a rebuild, and we’ll say so honestly if a new site isn’t what will move the needle.

How much does a new website cost?

Launch starts from £1,800. Growth starts from £3,500. Ecommerce starts from £6,500. You get a fixed quote before work begins.

Will I be able to update the site myself afterwards?

Yes. We build on WordPress with Kadence specifically so you can edit content yourself once the site is live, rather than being dependent on us for every small change.

Is SEO included in the website build?

The technical foundations — speed, structured data, clean page structure — are built in from the start. Ongoing SEO work, like content and link building, is a separate retainer if you want it.

What happens after the site launches?

An optional care plan, £95 a month, covers updates, backups and small changes so the site doesn’t fall out of date.

Why not build on a page builder like Elementor?

Kadence gives us the same editing freedom without the extra weight that slows a site down, and it works cleanly with the technical SEO layer underneath the design.

How long does a build actually take?

Typically two to six weeks depending on the tier, starting from when we’ve agreed the page plan and received your content and branding.

Will I see the site before it goes live?

Yes. You’ll see drafts of key pages as the build progresses, not just a single reveal at the end.

Can you migrate my existing content across, or does everything get rewritten?

We assess what’s already working on your current site and keep it where it earns its place. Rewriting everything by default would throw away rankings and content that’s already doing its job.
